Ranking alongside Shinjuku and Shibuya as one of Tokyo's shopping and entertainment hubs, the Ikebukuro district has an abundance of large-scale commercial facilities including Tobu Department Store and other department stores linked directly to its railway station, as well as restaurants and bars. It also has a full assortment of attractions such as an aquarium and planetarium that draw people of all ages for leisure. The city of Kawagoe, which flourished as a castle town in the Edo period, is known as "Koedo (little Edo)." Visitors can sample treats as they stroll down Ichibangai and Kashiya Yokocho, whose streets are lined with stores selling confections and are still colored by the atmosphere of old Edo.
